Re: Steering cable frozen
First thing, are you sure it is the cable. Most of the time, if the rudders have not been updated to stainless, it is the rudders not the cable. If it is the steering cable, don't waste your time trying to free it up. It will only prolong the inevitable. The entire steering assemblies ( new helm, ca...

Re: Questions about desire to re power a 32 Sedan with outboards
The weight shifting would not be as dramatic as you think. The 1600lbs of engine and trans, plus another 150?lbs for shafts, struts, rudders, propellers is alot more than a couple of modern outboards. Plus you can move all the batteries, fuel tanks and anything else heavy forward to where the engine...

Re: exterior flooring suggestions needed
For those that need to use epoxy for coating the plywood, if using west system, make sure you use the "special clear" hardener. The other hardeners are designed for bonding or laying up glass. The special clear is for coating.

Re: exterior flooring suggestions needed
The original nautolex vinyl works very good. Probably the best bang for your buck, except they no longer make the original pattern. This is what I am going to use in my Thompson when I finish the interior. They make some pretty nice textured vinyl in various colors. On my 32 express, I replaced the ...

Re: Starting challenges
The toggle switches used for ignition on Ms, and many other boat, do not hold up as well as a high amp switch (like a key switch, push button or heavy duty toggle). I bet 90% of the starting and running issues I have seen in boats with the plastic switches are because of the switches. Voltage drop t...

Re: Have to sell one (32' Sedan Project for sale)
If anybody wants to take on this project, I have both left and right hand complete (sans carb) 318s that I would part with very reasonably.

Mine were held to the dash with sheet metal screws and to the windshield frame with machine screws.

Re: 32 Express weight
My '72 weighs about 9400lbs with full tanks of fuel and flybridge. I am going to say the bridge, seat, railings and stuff weigh about 300lbs.

Re: shaft alignment
Something interesting, the Marinette is the only boat that I have worked on that has a rubber gasket between the strut and hull. All the wooden boats I work on either have wood shims or have the hull hogged out to get the strut right. All the glass boats have plastic, or cast in place epoxy shims. T...
