Re: Exhaust manifolds
This is a common issue I see with the log manifolds. The ends of the manifolds, block off plates, and risers/outlets seem to rust enough so that they won't seal good. I have made it a habit to never install used/used or new/used components together without refacing the old parts. I just sent a group...

Re: Sea rooster to motor lines
The single inlet water pump should be an engine with a closed (fresh water) cooling system. The dual pocket pumps are used on open (raw water) cooling systems. There was two versions of the raw water system, one with a mixing tee on the inlet side that hooks to the t-stat bypass, and the later one h...

Re: Chrysler marine replacement distributors
The chevys had it right. Chrysler made it a bit more difficult, but at least it's not a Graymarine Rambler engine. They use something like 6 different distributors (prior to '64) and reversed the gear helix on reverse rotation engines. I still run the original points distributors on my 318s. I take ...

Re: HELP!
All the water pump pulleys I have seen on the chryslers were either held on with a set screw on the back side or a snap ring on the front side. I know there was two shaft sizes used in early years and one was discontinued. My parts book shows the D-60 to have a snap ring groove on the end of the sha...

new strut
So, as the countdown to launch day gets ever nearer, I am still without a starboard strut. I built a welding fixture to make struts, but have struggled to find the correct alluminum in the right sizes. I have all the stainless I need to build them that way. Anybody ever used a SS strut? Anybody have...

Re: Replacing cutlass bearing
Cutless bearing replacement can be anything from a simple "remove the set screws and tap it out with a screwdriver handle" to "can't find the remains of the set screws and sombody put a bronze bearing in so the strut tube split from corrosion and a drop leg cracked" (the later wa...

Re: Althouse back yet?
Which version of the 327 do you have? My Thompson has the 238hp flywheel forward. These things are built like diesels! Weigh about as much, too.

Re: Althouse back yet?
They have to go off your original shaft dimensions. There are too many variables to be able to have "stock" shaft sizes for the big m. Sometimes they can straighten shafts, but 1" shafts are relatively inexpensive so most just get replaced. I see you have Rambler power for your boat. ...

Re: Corrosion Question
Is your dock neighbor on your port side? If so, and you don't have an isolation transformer on your boat, than I would put money on your boat being the ground path for your neighbor's. I will not leave my boat plugged in until I get an isolation transformer.
