Re: Exhaust manifold removal

Well, after doing some research on how this open exhaust system works and some self education I think i have a better understanding of it now. Also after getting the manifold and riser out of the bilge where i could see them I learned a lot more. The water passage on both were 100% stopped up and fu...

Re: Exhaust manifold removal

Jeff- thanks so much for the ideas on testing. I am thinking about trying to plug up the passage as well as I can and using g something to get the rust out of it. I was also going to clean all the rust off of the face where the manifold mounts and try to make sure I have a clean flush face for mount...

Re: Exhaust manifold removal

Pics of head after exhaust manifold removed. Was hoping to find a blown gasket or leaking gasket here to answer my question of why liquid in the spark plug hole closest to the riser. If anytime has any thoughts on the condition or if the gasket appears to have leaked I would appreciate the knowledge.

Re: Exhaust manifold removal

Perfect thanks for the help. I think I am tracking down my milky oil and wet spark plug on the cylinder closest to the exhaust riser on the outside.

Re: Exhaust manifold removal

Agreed sling is a good idea, do i have to remove exhaust bellows or what all has to come off for removal? I seem to not be able to get it off the studs dues to the bellows possibly?

Exhaust manifold removal

Any tips for removing the outside exhaust manifolds? I have them unbolted and all hoses off. I am assuming the riser has to go with it but I am unable to remove the bellows off the riser to allow the manifold to slide off the studs. Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: How much rust is too much in manifolds?

Dry when I opened it today it's been sitting for 10 years. I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures yet but I took some of the inside of the manifold. Boat is always in fresh water.

How much rust is too much in manifolds?

Pulled end cap off a manifold today of a 440 that has set in the boat for 10 years on blocks. Used a camera to look inside and they are pretty rusty. The question is how much is too much and what have others done for this issue?

Re: Water out of spark plugs hole.

Pulled the oil out of the engines today. Mr. Port looked like a nice Carmel milky milk shake, as well as the generator but that's another story. STBD was thick and smooth like it should be. So now the question is where and how did this water get into the oil? Exhaust manifold? Head gasket, valves etc...
