Re: No Fire
Yes, if in doubt replace wires. You can never tell what is going on and what sort of job previous owners and mechanics did to introduce corrosion and high resistance. If you start fresh, then you know what you are working with. Stranded wire is cheap and when your choice is that or chasing your tail...
Re: No Fire
I'll jump in just for clarification. You have a clean 12 or 12+ v coming in to the ignition switch but 11.5 out? If so start simply and take and remove each component down the line out by use of a jumper, starting with the key switch. You my find you have to re run a wire someplace if the corrosion ...

Re: Boat in the wet, but shafts won't drip
Success! 3/16 did the trick. 4-6 footers today, but it dripped in gear at the dock and not in neutral

Re: Boat in the wet, but shafts won't drip
Thanks Jeff,
Will do.. I'd rather have to repack more often than burn up shafts that are in good shape.

Re: Boat in the wet, but shafts won't drip
Lighting and sideways torque from pulling flanges. Once I pulled the shafts back into the boat I was able to line them right back up. This was taken months ago.

Re: Boat in the wet, but shafts won't drip
Huh, interesting, I did pull the packing nut all the way off and verified that I didn't yet burn the shafts. It didn't feel like the packing was stuck and a decent amount of water flowed out from the shafts and shaft log end. I verified the bilge pumps are all working and may just repack the shafts ...

Re: Boat in the wet, but shafts won't drip
Tried that, been screwing with it for a few weeks with a 4 hour round trip each time to get to the boat. When run loose the flow out the back of the nut was a steady stream when stopped and still got hot when running. ( No flow out the shaft side) Guess I will try and remove one of the three packing...
