Besides being able to service the prop easily, it also made low speed maneuvering with a single screw one heck of a lot easier. Because the drive was gimbled, it could be manually tilted to fore-aft trim the boat, meaning there was no need for trim tabs. I still prefer maneuvering with twin screws, ...

Here is all I have on the out-drive. It was a special order. I don't know if this boat was a 28' or a 32', but I suspect it was a 28'. Can anyone make an informed guess? I wish to make a half hull of my mother's 1963 Marinette Express. I found a drawing of a top down view of the deck and interior plan, but no hull line drawings. I have attached a picture of her boat. These are pix of my mother's Marinette, taken in the mid 1970s on the Tennessee River at Cuba Landing Marina near I40. It was unusual in that it had an early I/O drive that was fully mechanical. A crank rotated the external portion 180 degrees, bringing the prop up near the rail for replacement, etc...
