Oil Plug Came Out Under Power

This past weekend the oil pan plug came loose and all the oil in the port engine came out under power. The port was only under power for 5 to 10 minutes before I shut it off after hearing some noises, it was running at 1500 to 2000 rpms. I had some smoke that came from the engine, but not much and s...

Re: Engine stalls after getting to temp

Thanks everyone for the help. I installed the new pertronix dist. yesterday and the sea test went well. I hope this solved my issue. I did lose my temp gauges, I didn’t have enough time to mess around with it. I am planning on addressing that next weekend and taking a longer sea test. Thanks again.

Re: Engine stalls after getting to temp

Think you need to upgrade your coil at the same time with an internal resistor. Then wire directly to coil and key - throw external resistor and ignition mod in the trash. I want to make sure I understand 100%. I grabbed this wire diagram off of another post. My understanding is that I would wire i...

Re: Engine stalls after getting to temp

I am going to upgrade to the below pertronix distributor. I want to get away from the stock ignition system. PerTronix Flame-Thrower Plug and Play Marine Distributors with Ignitor II® Module D241800. How would I wire this? Would I wire this from the starter solenoid to the coil, coil to the pertroni...

Re: Engine stalls after getting to temp

I have one tank feeding the two engines. Replaced the fuel lines and filters. I installed a clear inline filter near the carbs to replace the old. I first thought my problems may be due to fuel. I emptied the fuel filters in a clear jar and let it sit, I didn’t see any water or other stuff in the fu...

Re: Engine stalls after getting to temp

Thanks for the response Jeff. Curious concerning the fuel issue mentioned. Wouldn’t I see the same issue with the starboard engine? I forgot to mention they share the same fuel tank. I did have the tank pumped out when I was on hard by the boat yard, I think there was a few weeks between it sitting ...

Engine stalls after getting to temp

I replaced both my Chrysler 318 blocks this winter, 318s with reman’d 318s. I have taken the boat on a sea test three times since launch in May, after each trip parts would be replaced and so on. For the most part I now have replace everything on them. New Edelbroock 1409 carbs, Arco alternators, re...

Re: Square Mount Fuel Sending Unit

Thanks Metalhead. I Will explore this option also. I decided to work on the engines/fuel tank next instead of spraying the last two coats of topcoat. I figured it would be easier to repair the paint if damaged during engine removal at this stage.

Re: Fuel Gauge

Thanks Jeff. I will remove and take it to West Marine. Sorry about hijacking this post. I will start a new going forward.
