Overcharging alternator

Fellow Marinette's, My M39DC 1985 with Chrysler 440, the starboard alternator is overcharging. I see others with the Chrysler 318 are recommending the ARCO one wire. According to "Marinepartssource" the ARCO 40112 can be used for the 440 and other Marinette's. Does it matter what the rotat...

Re: Having an electrical issue

Thanks for asking on a follow-up. Summery: With the refrigerator and ice maker plugged into the same ac outlet on the boat and with shore power plugged in, turning on the refrigerator circuit breaker switch would cause the capac to buzz for 5 seconds and turn the circuit breaker switch off. Capac re...

Having an electrical issue

Over the weekend my capac reading was at 0.6 instead of the usual 0.9. My refrigerator had quit working sometime during the previous week. The refrigerator breaker switch was off at the panel when I arrived this weekend. It was on when I left the previous weekend. When I push the refrigerator switch...

Re: 1985 M 39 DC gas tank selector

My fear is that the pickup on the port tank is not working and if I ignore this fat dumb and happy, I might run out of gas. I also thought there might be some other valving or tank selector that I was unaware of at the helm. Guess my next trouble shooting project will be to close the starboard valve...

1985 M 39 DC gas tank selector

Hello All, Still learning the system of my M39DC. When fueling up I always have equal amounts of gas into both tanks. I noticed that the port tank is reading 3/4 full and the starboard tank is 1/16 full or less yesterday. The tank under the bed looks like one big tank but with two opening for gas on...

Re: Painting of hull transom topside question

I picked up a color chart from West Marine for Interlux Brightside Polyurethane to match my hull. The best match was a toss up between Blue-Glo White (4259) and White (4359). Bought a quart of White. Want to thank everyone for input. Much appreciated.

Re: Painting of hull transom topside question

Joel and Busia, Thanks for the reply. I intend to just paint the transom for now. Reviewing other painting comments on this forum, the two most common brands of paint appear to be Awlgrip and Interlux. My take on brands is that Awlgrip to a two part process that requires starting from bare metal, pr...

Painting of hull transom topside question

I am removing the PO boat name that was painted on the transom. Once the painted name is removed, the white paint that was under the name is shades different from the surrounding paint on the hull transom. So, I intend to repaint the transom before placing the new boat name on. Question is, what bra...

Re: Battery parasitic draw

Jeff, Visited the boat last night. All batteries were charged up. With the charger off, each battery had 13 plus volts and with the shore power/charger off started checking batteries for amp draw. Have three on/off (no both) switches, one for each battery. House battery is on starboard and two crank...

Re: Battery parasitic draw

Wayne, Jeff, I'll check the frig switch tonight. I have yet to use frig, ice maker or any other electrical device on the boat other than bilge pumps and windlass. Only use windlass when dropping or raising anchor. I also keep the house service water pump off. All batteries tested excellent with a ba...
