Re: 1:1 vs 1.5:1

With regard to the original post - I am by no means an expert, but from a purely theoretical standpoint, a larger prop turning slower is (in theory) more efficient than a small prop turning faster. Propellers on big tugs and ships often turn at surprisingly low RPMs. Given that, I would suggest that...

Re: Bottom paint recommendation

I will echo what others have said regarding the process and getting primer on quickly after exposing the aluminum. For a 39 a second person to help prime would be good. I have been successful with Interprotect 2000e primer and used Sea Hawk Mission Bay as the anti fouling. Used Micron CF initially a...

Re: question about propeller racing in foul seas

does running the tabs all the way down help keep the prop under?

My tabs have never worked but I've been tinkering with them this summer. It's been a slow process but I hope to have them running soon.

Re: question about propeller racing in foul seas

I have tabs but they are not working at the moment so they are set fully retracted.

Waves were very steep, period very close together. I think that was part of it.

question about propeller racing in foul seas

We trailered our 28 to Green Bay (the body of water, not the city!) for a trip last week and had great weather most of the time. One of the days, we smashed our way through 24 miles of stiff 3-4 ft waves. Throttled to 2,000 rpm which equated to about 8-9 mph in those seas. In normal conditions that ...

Good source for distributor caps and rotors

I feel like I've heard a few complaints that Sierra caps/rotors are not of the greatest quality. I just found a new marine cap/rotor set through my local Federated Auto Parts supplier. If you don't have one of these stores near you, look up Standard Auto Parts online. They can look up what you need ...

Re: Sea Hawk Bottom Paint REVIEW

I am using red but have considered going to black since it is so hard to keep the brighter colors looking good.

Also, all the red paints seem to fade to pink at the waterline which I'm not a huge fan of.

Sea Hawk Bottom Paint REVIEW

This is a positive review for Sea Hawk Mission Bay copper-free antifouling. A few seasons ago, I had the bottom of the hull blasted and I applied Interlux Interprotect 2000e epoxy primer . Used Interlux Micron CF as the antifouling at that time. The primer has held up great. The Micron CF was very d...

Re: Who to not to shop from

For starters and alternators, I have had good luck with ARCO marine in Florida.
