Re: Machine shop for cylinder head service in Atlanta Area

David Ball at Ball Machine in Lilburn is a champion machinist. He has done many jobs for me both personally and professionally. I have absolutely no qualms in recommending him.

Re: Machine shop for cylinder head service in Atlanta Area

Maybe Dover got better. I had a terrible experience with them. They left media in my Mercedes 280SE head which ruined the engine.

Re: Raw water system diagnosis

It has been my experience that the strainer bowl will fill all by itself if the way to the source is clear. Perhaps the under hull pickup is blocked or the hose to it will not flow. Try back flushing the line to the strainer.

Re: Where can I get a proper thermostat ?

I found the gasket at Autozone for about $2 and change. They had a 70 mm t'stat for roughly $12 but it was a 160.

Anyone have a line on the whereabouts of a proper 2.5 inch 140 degree thermostat ? They seem to be made of that elusive material "unobtainium ".

Re: Starter Removal NOT GOOD

With the solenoid engaged try tapping the body of the starter lightly with a smallish hammer in the area of the brushes. The object is to vibrate stuck brushes. I've had some success with this seemingly barbaric technique.

Re: Changing oil queations

West Marine has an excellent vacuum pump that will suck the oil out of your engines in minutes. Mine is four years old and going strong. I also use it on my lawn mower. No mess, no fuss.

Re: Bilge blower recommendations?

Rule in line bilge blowers in Fastjeffs' boat (according to on board literature) draw 4.3 amps and require a 7 amp in line fuse. Therefore, were you to light off two blowers at the same time and, allowing for surge, a 15 amp breaker would supply a verdant field of energy. Does this answer the questi...

Re: Bilge blower recommendations?

The literature is on the boat. I will be there Saturday and I will report the findings to you Saturday evening. I'd be there Friday but, I fear, work intrudes.
