Re: Diagnosing a LM318......
Well, drained fuel tank and filled with fresh fuel. All fuel filters new and clean. Pull spark plugs and replaced. All cylinders running very rich but no white / bright plugs. Wanted to eliminate those variables. Pulled anti siphon valve. Clear and working fine. Ran the engine again. Under load, eng...

Diagnosing a LM318......
Looking for a gut check on the diagnosis of an 88 LM 318 port engine. Performed my normal start of season routine on both engines. New cap and rotor. Lubed the weights on the Pertronix mechanical advance. Changed oil, oil filter, fuel filters, etc. Engine started harder than normal. - Found a weak c...

Re: Compression check on 318’s
If the owner will not allow a compression check, lower the offer by $10K. You will spend that much replacing the engines and rebuilding the transmissions. If you pull the engines, do the trannys at the same time. As others said, run. The PO for my 32 allowed me to do the tests. I was not super happy...

Re: Bimini Top
I am in the process of making a replacement top for our 32. After looking at a number of different 32 Ms, I can tell you most bimini tops are different in meaningful ways. They all look the same until you look at the details. Our bridge bimini happens to be the original from a shop in Jeffersonville...

GLCI Shore power and ABYC standard E-11.11.1
Has anyone upgraded the shore power system to be compliant with the new GLCI electrical standards? ABYC standard E-11.11.1? Our marina is upgrading all dock shore power connections with GLCI compliant breakers. I have a sneaking suspicion that our vessel will require the addition of a ELCI panel and...

Re: Bottom paint recommendation
Paint selection depends location and water conditions. Check with local boat yards and find out which paint brand performs best in your area. You should call the paint companies. They are aware of local variations in paint performance. I found them very helpful. The local yards on Lake Lanier say Pe...

Re: Packing or Stuffing box
@ Metalhead....Did you ever find the rudder stuffing box hose in the 1 7/8" x 1 3/4" configuration? I have a 75 32' sedan slipped in Aquia, Virginia that is in dire need of new plastic stuffing boxes which I did find at a ski boat shop in La. The hose has been elusive...Thanks I replaced ...

Re: Marinette purchase advice
I've owned both an Express M and a Flybridge M. There are benefits to both configurations. Express / sedan : - gives you fast access to the aft deck and gunnels (In case the first mate needs some help docking) - It's a little more social; everyone is on the same level. - Seeing the aft corners while...

Re: Fuel Starvation
Have you tested the fuel pressure? It's a simple test with a vacuum / pressure gauge attached to the carb fuel line? Should be in the neighborhood of 5 PSI or higher. If pressure is low, work back in the system toward the tank. If pressure is ok, work toward the engine. Bill's diagnostics above cove...

Re: Oil Leakage
Recently saw a post from another person with same issue. Check your oil filter. A small pinhole can cause a large mess. The pin holes can come from a defect in the seam at the bottom plate joint. The oil pan bolts can come loose over time. Again, a small hole hole under 60-80 PSI causes a large mess...
